I’m Dana McMahan, a freelance writer and Airbnb superhost in Louisville Kentucky.
“Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.”
(Thank you Mr. Twain.)
With a mixed up, mashed up background that includes absurd amounts of food around the world, serial renovations, Airbnb hosting, adventure sports, and dogs, I want to have my bourbon and drink it, too.
If I can’t have too much bourbon I don’t want any at all
(Thank you Colette)
As a writer, I contribute to sites like NBC News and Apartment Therapy/The Kitchn, and have written for Rachael Ray, Delta Sky, and Food Network magazines; the LA Times, London Telegraph, and Washington Post; Salon, Esquire, Lonely Planet, Fodors, CNN Travel, Food Republic, and CondeNastTraveler.com; and a slew of other outlets.
My topics? All the cool and interesting things in life (see above). I’ve also been covering the culinary and drinks scene in Louisville and bourbon country for Louisville Courier Journal since 2010. My portfolio’s here if you’d like to take a look.

It's a special #tbt: one year ago today we got our first booking! Nearly 100 later we've met some amazing people (and dogs!) and had some ups and downs – – think heat outage, roof leaks, and now AC outage – – and have learned a lot. And I can't wait to see what the next year of hosting travelers brings!
What else? I’m one of Airbnb’s longest tenured superhosts, with a full-time listing in our Victorian in Old Louisville. I help aspiring hosts with coaching and tips at So You Wanna Be a Superhost. Oh, and I love my dogs, like, a LOT. I lead a walking tour Airbnb Experience with my big mountain dog mutt Cassius Thunderpaws.
